Glen Waverly Line (Part 2). Darling to Glen Waverly
DARLING. 11/4/2017. 38th Run. 11.2 km
Hadn’t enjoyed the short morning run to Elsternwick for a while so felt like a bit of a novelty. Into Richmond station and decided to walk laps of the station to keep warm as the Glen Waverley train was predictably late again. Cool morning for running but only a relatively short run so very comfortable. Couple of days off now as ending into Easter and my wife has finished her race season. Off to Torquay for a break.
EAST MALVERN. 11/1/2017. 6th Run. 11.1 km.
Ran to Elsternwick to catch the 5:57 am. Still in the very early stages of the challenge and working through the logistics of how best to set up for each run. Have decided on a cap and a running belt to hold my phone, too many turns at some stations to remember the way. Just as well I did as I went the wrong way once I left the station, only 200 m before I got confused. Apart from that an uneventful run with the only highlight watching a seagull swallow a whole Cheezel on platform 10 at Richmond station. Very impressive.
HOLMSGLEN. 17/7/2017. 74th Run. 12.8 km.
Woke up with a slightly sore back and with the chance of rain I changed my mind as to which station to run from. Caught the 5:37 am and decided to wear a long sleeve running top. Took headphones so I could listen to the google directions whilst running but now have Spotify so have music as well. Turned out to be a nice day with no rain and got to 11 degrees. Really didn’t need the long sleeves.
JORDANVILLE. 15/1/2017. 116th Run. 12.9 km.
Shortest of the runs left to do so an easy after work option. Got a ride from home to Elsternwick with wife Mary who was on her way to swimming. Quick change at Richmond and at Jordanville by 6:50 pm. I have run past Jordanville on a previous run so familiar with the area and that makes directions easy. Less people out in the pubs and restaurants on a Monday night, s not as many distractions. Hard to run past people eating when you are hungry. Made it home in around 60 mins so dinner not too late.
MOUNT WAVERLY. 12/2/2018. 121st Run. 15 km.
Public transport trifector today as I caught the bus to work, then run to the tram stop after work. Tram to Southern Cross and then train to Mount Waverley. Some days it feels like getting to the station is as much effort as running home. Fortunately I got a seat during peak hour. That doesn’t always happen. Lovely night for a run and given Mount Waverley is on a hill (mountain?) it was a nice downhill run for most of the way. Luckily I live at sea level. Felt quite good at the end of the run and was able to pick up the pace - must be getting fitter.
SYNDAL. 30/12/2017. 112th Run. 17.7 km.
Decided to do back to back runs but not much went right with the logistics of starting. Originally planned to do Mitcham but got an offer from my wife to drop me off at Surry Hills. First change in place but then confusion as to meeting place for Mary’s ride meant I got dropped off in between stations. New plan meant a 1 km run to Holmsglen and then onto the third option of Syndal. Missed the train by 90 seconds so then had a 20 minute wait. Finally got started and all good from then although I had heavy legs from the run the day before. Fortunately I knew it would be all downhill once I got to Mount waverley. At least early start meant early finish.
GLEN WAVERLY. 23/9/2017. 87th Run. 20.2 km.
Back to the old plan of running to Elsternwick and train to Richmond for 15 min wait. Won’t miss the Glen Waverley line punctuality. Lovely 19 degrees but that is only nice if you are standing still and it doesn’t get hotter. Neither was true today. Some confusion early on as google didn’t realize the path beside the rail line was at a different level to the road. Had to climb a fence to get back on track (literally). Heat started to get to me about 5 km from home - had been so cool for last few runs. Drink I was carrying had got warm so no good. Just glad to get home on a hot day.
