Glen Waverly Line (Part 1). East Richmond to Glen Iris.

EAST RICHMOND. 28/4/2017. 44th Run. 10.3 km.

Early morning run to Elsternwick to catch the 5:57 am train to Richmond. Planned the day so that I could run from Richmond to West Richmond and then home. It was only when I went to take my selfie that I realised I was actually at East Richmond - nice surprise. Left the station at the same time as about 20 Coles home delivery trucks. Easy run down Church St and onto Chapel St. Recent rain made for humid morning.

BURNLEY. 4/1/2017. 3rd Run. 10.6 km.

The first run from home to Elsternwick station to catch the train. Only 1.9km but get to add it on to the total distance. Caught the 5:57 am and changed at Richmond for short trip to Burnley. Also first attempt at trying to remember all the turns to get home - that was a fail. Eventually found a sign pointing towards Elsternwick after I crossed the river and that got me sorted. Easy route after that. Only 207 runs to go - how hard can it be.

HEYINGTON. 10/1/2017. 5th Run. 10.6km.

Enjoying the early run to Elsternwick station while the weather is warm. On the 5:57 am again and a change at Richmond to the 6:18 Glen Waverly stopping at Heyington. The outbound platform at Heyington almost part of the St Kevins campus. Bit early for the students and I was the only person that got off there. Ran up a reasonable hill to start and in amongst some nice houses. Down Toorak Rd and onto Orrong Rd. Nice morning and easy run.

KOOYONG. 13/2/2017. 18th Run. 11.3 km.

Another run to Elsternwick to catch the 5:57 am to Richmond. Starting to recognise some of the frequent passengers of this service. Got the 6:18 Glen Waverly train and off at Kooyong. From the station a nice uphill start along Glenferrie Rd and onto High St and then Kooyong Rd. A few turns but logistically simple compared to other runs. Got back past Elsternwick Park with a lot of activity in the park as it looked like someone was setting up for the filming of an ad or TV show. Nice temperature despite the wind.

TOORONGA. 22/2/2017. 22nd Run. 12.1 km.

Got the usual 5:57 am train and changed at Richmond. Trying to remember all the directions the night before is starting to cost me. Exited Tooronga station in the wrong direction this morning which meant an extra kilometre or so added to the run. Everything good from then on and found my way back to Orrong Rd which is like base camp. Even then, I still didn’t take the shortest way home as I zig zagged bit bit around Elsternwick. Home a little later than planned but all good.

GARDINAR. 24/4/2017. 43rd Run. 11.4 km.

Ground hog day with run to Elsternwick to catch 5:57 am followed by catching the apparently always late Glen waverley train to Gardinar. Fair bit of rain overnight meant roads were wet but I got lucky and only encountered a few light showers. Ran through the Monash Uni Caulfield campus and down Queens Ave along side Caulfield racecourse, so very pleasant run. Cool morning but I had warmed up before I got wet so not too bad.

GLEN IRIS. 15/2/2017. 19th Run. 11.9 km.

Same same but slightly different for most stations on the Glen Waverley line. Run to Elsternwick and train change at Richmond. Slight panic when a lack of concentration made me think I had missed the station but a quick check of the map restored calmness. Maybe getting too relaxed on public transport early in the mornings. First station that I started taking selfies, but focused too much on the station sign and forgot myself. A selfie without the self - my daughters would not be impressed. Nice cool morning and simple left, right, left right directions until I hit Genhuntly Rd meant logistics easy.
