Alamein Line. Riversdale to Alamein.
RIVERSDALE. 15/5/2017. 51st Run. 15.6 km.
Starting to push the time limits associated with the morning runs. Caught the 5:57 as usual and at Riverdale station at 6:30am. Dark and a bit foggy and I went the wrong way turning onto Toorak Rd so had to backtrack a bit. Unsure exactly which was the best route so stopped to check my phone a few times and in the end ran a bit further than I needed to. Got home at 7:50 am but needed quick turnaround to get to work on time. Looks like 14km is the max distance for morning runs. Or I need to start catching the 5:37 am.
WILLISON. 8/11/2017. 99th Run. 14.8 km.
Still on the limit with morning runs that start with the 5:57 train from Elsternwick. Beautiful morning and all trains on time so got to Willison by 6:30am. First few roads from the station were all concrete roads so a bit harder on the legs - might need new runners. Crossed over the Monash freeway and headed towards home. Ran back past the “Block” houses in Elsternwick but all quiet now they are sold. Home by 7:45 am so kept moving to get to work on time.
HARTWELL. 14/11/2017. 101st Run. 14.6 km.
One of my more ordinary runs overall. Started when I slept through my alarm and fortunate to wake up about 5 mins later. Rushed out the door and forgot my sunglasses which made reading my phone for directions a bit tricky. Normally love my sunglasses with reading lens at bottom. Made a better effort of running shorter way home but it was warm and I took a while to cool down when I got home. Heat is not my best friend.
BURWOOD. 1/11/2017. 97th Run. 14.1 km.
Back onto the 5:57 am train meant a very small sleep in. Nice run to Elsternwick and on time trains got me to Burwood by 6:35 am. Very convoluted route early on had a few changes of directions and even a cut through of Hedgeley Dene gardens. Felt a bit lost a few times but ultimately had to trust my google maps assistant. Nice day with just a touch of drizzle early but got home by 7:50 am so all good. Still avoiding Uber at that time of the morning as the surge pricing a bit much.
ASHBURTON. 10/10/2017. 92nd Run. 11.5 km.
Best run in a while with cool temperature, no wind and only around 11 km. Made for a pleasant and enjoyable morning run. Caught an Uber to Ashburton as not too far from home and short cuts the logistics of the train system. No surge pricing so extra bonus. Don’t understand how that works. But in the end the Uber driver couldn’t find the station and I gave up and walked the final 400m. Win some - lose some. Earphones starting to become more comfortable so now get music and directions more easily. Easy day.
ALAMEIN. 20/9/2017. 86th Run. 10.9 km.
Unusual line in that the last station is closer to home than some of the others. Again went with the Uber as 20 min wait at Richmond for train change not attractive. Have sorted out the combination of google map directions and Spotify music (1980’s of course) and can do both at the same time. Got caught at Carnegie station having to wait for trains in both directions and then had to wait again at Glenhuntly for another train. guess it was Karma for avoiding the trains in the first place. Looked like bomb squad shutting down areas around Malvern so gave that a wide berth on the way home. Home by 7 am so casual breakfast with wife before work.
