Frankston Line (Part 4) Chelsea to Frankston
CHELSEA. 9/9/2017. 83rd Run. 22.6km
Late start so I could have breakfast with my daughter for her birthday. As always, had a plan to catch 2 trains and run from Sunshine but after being dropped off at Elsternwick the train was running late so recut the plan. Caught an Uber to Chelsea and then relatively easy run as always on this line. Straight up Nepean Hwy. Fully recovered from sore back but struggled a bit at the end as haven’t been running much of late. Time to get serious again.
BONBEACH. 20/5/2017. 53rd Run. 23.9km
Time to test my new running shirt courtesy of my wife. Easy start to the day after getting dropped off at Cheltenham station, only to miss the 6:43 am train by less than a minute. And it was my fault. No worries really as next train only 26 mins later! Got to spend some quality time by myself sitting at a station. Finally got to Bonbeach and exit from station straight onto my favourite Nepean Hwy. Longest run to date and new shirt ideal with no issues.
CARRUM. 3/6/2017. 58th Run. 25.3km
Another long run but realised it was actually less than half the length of the Pakenham run that awaits in the future. Again got a ride to Cheltenham with my favourite wife and this time got the 6:43 am which got me to Carrum right on 7 am. Pretty straight forward run with the only highlight being watching a possum look for food in the rubbish bin at Cheltenham station. Saw my wife ride past with her gang as I made my way along the Nepean Hwy - wished I had a bike. Beautiful morning and starting to feel my legs at the end of these longer runs.
SEAFORD. 13/1/2018. 115th Run. 28.9km
New long run record as I approach the 30km barrier. Again able to get ride to station, this time Moorabbin. From there only 30 mins to Seaford. Frankston line is the simplest navigation as Nepean Hwy is 90% of course. Started to carry money rather than drinks in the warmer weather as drinking warm water not so exciting. Drink break in Mentone but only had mango available - too sweet. Second stop to help guy who was rear ended on Nepean Hwy - no injury so he was just waiting for tow truck. Started to rain as I got home so perfect timing to finish.
KANANOOK. 12/5/2018. 142nd Run. 31.8km
The first of the stations over 30km. Got the opportunity to share a ride with my wife who was off to do some hill running near Frankston. Took my selfie at Kananook station and then made my way across Kananook Creek (after a slight detour) to the Nepean Hwy. Same old course back towards the city with a drink stop in Mentone but avoided the mango favour. Tail wind made the run bit easier but also felt a bit hotter. Realised that at the end of a long run I tend to slow down to catch the red lights rather than speed up to catch the green. Fatigue changes your priorities.
FRANKSTON. 22/9/2018. 176th Run. 33.1km
The longest of the Nepean Hwy runs. Got a fast start to the day with Uber to Caulfield. Five minute wait for train and at Frankston just after 9 am. No need for directions here - just straight up Nepean Hwy and very few turns. My standard, no mango favour, drink stop at Mentone and then a toilet break at Southland. Took until I got to Brighton for any excitement on the run. A lady almost cleaned me up whilst backing out her driveway at speed. Apparently pedestrians on footpaths don’t have right of way if you toot your horn. Arrogance is not an attractive trait.
