Map 54. Run #39. 27/6/2020. (Elevation 39m)

Saturday morning train to Altona on a cool morning. Ran from the station to Cherry Lake and most of a lap. Cut through JK Grant reserve and around the back streets to get to Altona College and onto Maidstone St. from there I headed to the beach going past Westona station and many cyclists. Nice run along the Esplanade and back to Altona station. Nearly got on the wrong train, forgot only one platform for both directions.

Map 463. Run #40. 28/6/2020. (Elevation 96 m)

Coldest morning so far with light frost. Drove to Waurn Ponds and started next to the cement works. Went north along Draytons Rd towards the Princes Fwy and then back to the car to find I had forgotten to lock it. Lucky no one around out here. Limited road choices around here within the bounds of map 463 so down Reservoir Rd road and back again with a quick detour down Willowite Rd. Wouldn’t want to run on this road after rain.

Map 28. Run #41. 30/6/2020. (Elevation 92 m)

Love running alongside the Maribyrnong River. Train to Ascot Vale and mostly downhill early to get onto the river. But what goes down must climb back up. After 3 km near the river I headed back up through Aberfeldie Parkand back out onto Waverley St. Then up again along Holmes Rd and into Moonee Ponds. Crossed over Maribyrnong Rd and found myself in Ascot Vale which will go into a second CoronaVirus locked on Wednesday - lucky I ran Map 28 because I won’t be allowed back in for 4 weeks. Only just missed the return train to the city and had to wait 18 mins. Bad day with respect to efficient train changes.

Map 75. Run #42. 1/7/2020. (Elevation 276 m)

Double day with the variation of two runs that weren’t loops. Trained it to Tecoma near the Dandenong Ranges so knew it would be hilly. Early navigational error when I stayed south of the train tracks when I should have gone north. Mucked up the first couple of kms of the planned route but after a quick stop and recalculation, was back on track. Some really steep sections around here but worth it for the beautiful views. Initially went east towards Belgrave station before heading west and finishing at Upwey station. A 3 station run.

Map 74. Run #43. 1/7/2020. (Elevation 120 m)

Just a short walk of 200 m to the start of the second run of the day. Easy downhill start along Old Belgrave Rd, but again missed an early turn into Ropley Grange. Recovered to work my way up to the appropriately named Upper Ferntree Gully, then downhill to the “city” center. Did a lap of Kings Park and then made my way to Ferntree Gully with an extra lap around the Ferntree Gully Station precinct to make up the 10 km. Had time to buy lunch due to the 24 min wait for the next city bound train.

Map 1D Run #44. 2/7/2020. (Elevation 66 m)

Back on the bike and into the city - almost. Map 1D is based in South Melbourne but as a blue map it is only a small area making complexity of the course necessary. That coupled with less GPS accuracy near the CBD meant a confusing run with “off course” messages even when I was on track. Nevertheless, got the run done by looping around the area and did some extra distance to offset the short Garmin kilometres often encountered around the CBD. A few stops to check directions and the closure of the Evan Walker bridge meant it was a very disrupted run.
