Run 76. Tram route 6. 11/02/2020.
Another run where the logistics of getting to and from the run were more complicated than the run itself. Walked to the station with Camille who was off to Uni. Changed trains at Flinders to get to Southern Cross then another change to Upfield line and finally got off at Moreland station. Expecting to see a tram terminus but instead, at stop 133, the tram lines kept going.
Set off following the tram tracks back towards the city. It was a nice day, not too hot but with the humidity in the 90’s it didn’t take long to raise a sweat. Eventually it must have looked like I went for a swim rather than a run as the sweat started dripping off my hat and into my eyes. Evaporative cooling can be very inefficient and looking for drinking taps was a distraction.
Happy to finally get to the end of the tram 6 route and after a couple of kilometers of local sightseeing in Glen Iris to make up the 21.1km , I arrived at Glen Iris station and the trip home.
A train back to Richmond station then change onto the Sandringham line to get to Elsternwick followed by a 15 min walk home meant it was about an hour from finishing my run to get a drink and something to eat. Poor planning (no money) leads to hunger and thirst.
Ran 1:46:53 but would have preferred 1:48:00 and some money in my pocket for a drink.
My Three Learnings.
The last stop on a tram line isn’t always the end of the tracks.
High humidity equates to a high sweat rate.
Not eating or drinking for an hour after a run isn’t a good recovery technique.
