Run 75. St Kilda Festival. 8/2/2020.
This run started as a route 75 tram run but, due to the extended logistics of getting to the start of the line in Vermont, combined with increasing temperatures, I changed the plan. Instead a run from the city to the St Kilda Festival (in St Kilda) with a tour around all the areas being set up for tomorrow.
But not much went well on this run. The change of plans meant I wasn’t sure where I was going initially. Then as I headed along the Yarra I ran into a rowing regatta. The boats in the water were a pleasant sight but the crews trying to get their boats from the sheds to the water became an obstacle course. But on the positive side, my Garmin did credit me with a Yarra river crossing on foot – go me. Headed towards St Kilda and by the 8km mark I had arrived at Fitzroy St and started zig zagging around the precinct that would be the Festival tomorrow. Lots of setting up and numerous stages and rides to navigate around, but certainly an entertaining section of the run. By the 16km mark I had left the Festival behind and headed back to my car at Elsternwick station.
The last 5km were ordinary, the temperature had reached 30 degrees, the wind had picked up and I was over it. After two nice runs I was due for a tough one – and I got it. Still managed to run 1:50:47 but my heart rate was high for most of the back half and I left the enjoyment at the Festival grounds.
My Three Learnings.
Traffic can take many forms, including boats.
My Garmin watch thinks I can walk on water.
Fatigue, heat and wind take the joy out of some runs.
