Run 85. Tram route 3A. 14/3/2020.
A fifth tram run in a row means I am finally getting on top of the number of tram tracks to be run. Now completed 19 of the 24 routes. Got a ride with Lizey to Glenhuntly road which left me about 4.5km to run to get to the start point of the number 3 tram. Today, being Saturday, means the 3A weekend tram is operating which includes a small detour via St Kilda.
Had a big eating day the day before with burgers and schnitzels so no risk of running short of fuel and as it turns out – no associated problems. Good to know any carb is a good carb the day before. Easy run early as I knew the area and weather was cool.
Always a bit of a risk crossing major intersections as pedestrian lights are really designed for walkers. This often means hitting the intersection as the walk light starts to flash. Usually if I am quick there is no issue, but on this occasion the front vehicle was a police car. Momentary panic resulted in more speed and no eye contact. All good.
Got to St Kilda junction and used the tunnels to avoid the traffic. Grand Prix cancelled (CoronaVirus) but still a lot of cars around. Same result as last time as I reappeared in a spot I wasn’t expecting – just like going through a black hole – weird.
Judged the distance of the run perfectly and clocked over the 21.1km point just as I arrived at the big tram stop outside Melbourne Uni. in a time of 1:43:07.
My Three learnings
St Kilda road junction is like a black hole.
Carb loading with chicken schnitzel and burgers the night before causes no harm.
The presence of police makes you run faster.
