Run 84. Tram route 11. 10/3/2020.
Yet another tram run as I slowly get back on track to complete all 24 tram lines. Started early on a Tuesday morning by catching the train system to Regent station. From there a short easy run to the start of the 11 tram. But my phone threw a wobbly and the GPS didn’t want to help so it took a while to find my way to my destination. It looked so simple on the google maps the night before.
Finally off and running and another chance to pace myself against a tram in peak hour traffic. But the trams get their own area down St Georges Rd so I had no chance. On top of this I was running at peak school drop off time and whilst I can sometimes cross against the lights, taking on a lollipop person is another thing. Besides, they were quite chatty whilst I waited.
Traffic started to pick up as I travelled through Fitzroy and into the city which meant I was able to keep in touch with the next tram so I pushed a bit harder. Into the CBD and it seems morning peak is less busy than evening peak. Easy run up Collins St and to the end of the tram line where I recognised the driver of an earlier tram coming back the other way. They are a friendly lot.
Headed back to Richmond station to make up the 21km and the extra effort meant I did 1:43:12.
My Three Learnings.
Courses containing school crossing supervisors definitely cause delays.
City in morning peak hour is better than night peak hour.
Not knowing where you are going and without GPS makes for a problem.
