Run 69. The Marching Run. (Left, Right, Left, Right). 19/1/2020.
By now the smoke haze was even affecting the coast and whilst not as bad as north east Victoria it was still enough to close some of the beaches. Today started not too bad but as I began running I could smell and taste the smoke and I doubt that helped my overall performance.
This run was set up as alternating turns to see where I would end up. First right then left then right then…..OK. But having simple directions so I could concentrate on my speed didn’t quite work. Initially things were good but then got complicated. The road curved right then came to a T. Was the curve actually a right turn or did I now have to turn right. Somewhat confused I turned right at the T then left. Then it happened again but with a left curve followed by a right. I think I went left but then left again because there was no right. This was followed by a right into a dead end street so I turned left to get out and then right (or left) to go back the other way.
Then I forgot what my last turn was and went left before turning right when I hit the road along the beach. Running along The Esplanade in Torquay meant the next left turn would be….never.
By now it was too hard to keep the marching directions and the smoke was annoying so I just looped around and went home.
A smoke and direction impacted time of 1:51:55 was respectful. Right?
My Three Learnings.
Sometimes it’s hard to remember your left from your right.
You can’t turn left if you’re already running along the beach.
Smoke haze is definitely not an ideal running condition.
