Run 58. Tram route 48. 4/12/2019.
Time for another tram route. Used all of the public transport trilogy to complete this run. First caught the train from Elsternwick to Richmond then walked to the corner of Punt Rd and Wellington Pde to catch the 48 tram. Got off almost at the end when the tram driver decided to let us off 100m from the stop to save time. Set off back towards the city and about 3km into the run the same tram went past and the driver waved and gave me the thumbs up. Nice.
Tram tracks pretty easy to follow and didn’t feel too long before I was back into the CBD and the usual garmin short kms. At the bottom end of Collins street I saw the same tram and same tram driver. She appeared either surprised or bemused to see me again, but she still gave me a big wave and thumbs up, very enthusiastically.
Got to the end of the 48 tram line but still had 7km to complete the half so headed towards Elwood. Definitely more downhill than uphill given I started in Balwyn North and finished in St Kilda which is virtually at sea level. Ticked off the 21.1km target but realised I was still 3km from home. Didn’t really think that through properly, but luckily I was on the 606 bus route and turns out it was only 5 mins away. Got lucky on that one.
Very inefficient way to get to the start but ran a 1:47:55 with the advantage of both the downhill and CBD garmin kilometers.
My Three Learnings
Some tram drivers are very friendly.
Start high end low for fastest times.
Don’t finish in the middle of nowhere.
