Run 56. Running around Elwood – Literally. 27/11/2019.

My home suburb of Elwood is not that big. In fact the outline of Elwood is just on 7km according to google maps. So doing 3 laps makes the perfect distance and I would never be too far from home. Now I have learnt that bus routes are hard to follow as there are no marking on the road – but at least there are tram stops to reaffirm that you are still on the right path. Suburb boundaries only really exist on maps and council offices.

On the first lap I got most of the turns right but the left turn from Brighton Rd onto Dickens St does not jump out at you and trying to get that turn right cost me some time. Even on the second lap I almost missed it. But on the third lap – I smashed it.

More roadworks in St Kilda St and whilst they were only small, I still had to deal with the hassle 3 times. The traffic management people really aren’t sure what to do with a runner vs just cars. You can see the confusion in their eyes as you approach.

But at least running along the beach 3 times was nice and as the day progressed and got warmer it became more popular. By the time I was on my third laps there was a film crew making a commercial. Didn’t have time to make a guest appearance in the background.

Another sub 1:50 at 1:49:49 – not bad on a warm day.

My Three Learnings

  1. Roadworks – do I need to say more?

  2. Suburb boundaries, like bus routes, aren’t marked.

  3. A beach is the perfect place to end a run on a nice day.
