Run 13 – The Barty Party. 11/06/2019.
Sat up late Saturday night to watch Ash Barty win the French Open so decided to honor the win with a run to Rod Laver Arena – Roland Garros was a bit beyond the 21.1km. From Elwood I ran up Punt road and happy not to be in that peak hour traffic, at times I was faster than the cars. The Punt road hill is a little easier running north bound, but still a pace killer.
Turned left into Swan St and into one of the worlds great sporting precints. Made my way towards Rod Laver Arena to join the Barty Party, but turns out I was the only one there.
A party of one doesn’t last too long so quick selfie and headed off back home. Cut through the Kings Domain and back onto St Kilda Rd and down into St Kilda.
On the way back to Elwood realised that the first day blisters from the new shoes appeared OK but the second generation blisters had started – not really a new lesson, just a reminder from the last run.
In the end ran 1:50:04 and was a bit annoyed that I wasn’t watching the clock a bit closer or I would have finished stronger and broken the 1:50:00 mark which would have been good for a Tuesday. Tuesdays are a bit like Thursdays – slow. If this was a Saturday I probably would have broken 1:35:00 ish.
My Three learnings
Punt Rd slow for cars and runners – regardless of direction of travel.
Blisters don’t go away in 3 days – time to tape my feet.
Got to get the timing of my sprint finish right.
