Run 100. Run and Done. 24/4/2020.

The century run and despite all the learnings that I have accumulated over the other 99 half marathons, in the end two things conspired to stop me breaking the one hour mark. The first was the CoronaVirus which meant I was unable to travel to the ideal course to make an attempt on the goal. The second was a lack of speed. I’m just not fast enough.

But despite this disappointment I still got to celebrate the hundredth run by staying close to home and running a course that reflected it being run number 100. But even during this run I was reminded of the importance of concentrating on the route when I suddenly realised I had turned too early and messed up my pattern – a bit.

I also got a real sense of how strange this challenge was to other people. When I told others what I was trying to do they, thought I was a bit weird. Today the people that noticed me running multiple laps of certain blocks looked like they shared that view.

But in the end the enjoyment from this challenge was in the variety of runs, destinations and little learnings accumulated along the way. I’m glad I got to finish the 100 half marathons now as my mum’s health is starting to fail and whilst I’m celebrating beating my challenge, I fear she is losing hers.

  1. Have to concentrate on the turns when trying to run a shape.

  2. Completing a challenge is more fun than just running fast.

  3. Breaking 1 hour for a half marathon is a ridiculous goal for most people.
