Run 97. Coronavirus Ghost town. Part 4. 17/4/2020.

Looks like I won’t get all the tram lines done due to CoronaVirus restrictions on travel. But I can still do CoronaVirus based runs. Today I ran to Station Pier in Port Melbourne to see the local Cruise liner. I was even able to get a selfie with the infamous Ruby Princess in the background. (OK – it wasn’t the Ruby Princess, it was the Spirit of Tasmania. But if it was the Ruby Princess it would be a much better story).

Still feeling the pain of my sore back that probably wasn’t helped by helping my daughter move house the day before. Lesson learned again. Couple of Panadol and l was mostly good. Ran into a head wind for the first half of the run which emphasised my sore back and definitely ruled out a fast time. With so many infections of CoronaVirus occurring on Cruise Ships it was obvious that on board a Cruise Ship would not be a good location to run a fast half marathon. For multiple reasons.

Headed back home, this time with a tail wind and a bit of sun. This, coupled with my back being fully warmed up and the Panadol fully effective, resulted in a much more comfortable back half of the run. Didn’t set the world on fire with a time of 1:47:57. But at least I have confirmed the learning that a healthy back is really necessary for a fast time.

My Three Learnings.

  1. Work moving house is not a good pre run routine.

  2. A cruise ship would not be a good place to run a fast half marathon.

  3. Backs need rest to fully recover.
