Run 89. Baywatch – CoronaVirus edition. 28/3/2020.
Back in the city and the Coronavirus is starting to peak. The beaches are closed and you are only allowed outside for 4 reasons. Fortunately exercise is one. Assuming it would be a quiet time along the beach on this Saturday morning I headed north. But I was wrong. Seems a lot of people didn’t get the memo or didn’t understand or didn’t care. It was busy, and whilst only a few idiots actually went onto the beach, many skirted the edges.
I gave up on the north option and turned around and went south. A few less people but still more than practicable. I settled into a nice rhythm when I was blindsided with a whack in the face. Turns out it was only a butterfly and the fright was more significant than the impact. Luckily Mohummand Ali didn’t float like a bee and sting like a butterfly. He wouldn’t have been very successful.
Went back past Elwood and headed towards Sandringham where the beaches are normally less populated even on a nice day. More room to run in this area whilst maintaining social distancing. More dogs down this way but they don’t spread the virus. Good dogs.
Turned around again and headed home as temperature was starting to climb and with the current status of the Coronavirus impact, getting a drink from a public drinking fountain was not recommended. Finally home in a time of 1:47:53 but being hot and thirsty towards the end didn’t help a fast time.
My Three Learnings.
Butterflies don’t hit as hard as fists.
10 degrees can have a big impact on maintaining pace.
People are stupid
