Run 87. Run for Mum. 21/3/2020.
For the past few months I have been spending a bit of time in Wangaratta as my mum fights a battle against cancer. The prognosis isn’t great but I don’t want to dwell on that. My destination was to respect the headquarters of cancer research and treatment at Peter Mac. And more importantly the people.
But back to the run. Basically a run into through and back out of the CBD. This had the advantage of doing two passes through the city and gaining twice from the GPS confusion that happens around tall buildings. This would have been the perfect out and back course but I tried to get a bit too clever on the return leg through the city and due to all the road / tunnel works around that area I got a bit lost. No big deal but I thought I knew that area better.
Very straight forward run back down St Kilda Rd as I have done it many times. The turn around point at Peter Mac hospital was around 11.5km which meant I would achieve the 21km well before getting home. This afforded me a rare warm down jog at the end, but it didn’t change the time I ran so why bother. A1:43:19 was OK anyway.
My Three Learnings
Running through the city twice doubles the short kilometre advantage.
The bigger the roundabout the slower the progress.
I must remember how lucky I am to be healthy and able to run.
