Run 8 – The Hamptons. 25/5/2019
Not actually the New York version of “The Hamptons”, just the Hampton near Sandringham. Visited my first ever residential address in Teddington Rd. Ran a big loop including Glenhuntly, Jasper, South Rd and back to Elwood. Unfortunately not feeling it today. Maybe the hydration from last night. Sav Blanc is really fortified fruit juice so that couldn’t be the issue, and G&T is carbo loaded tonic water, again should not be the issue. Likely problem was the slice of lemon in the G&T. That citric acid most likely culprit.
Purchased new shoes since the last run but didn’t seem to help. Next run I will actually wear them on the run. Got to 10km mark and started to feel crap. Stopped at a set a lights and, thanks to a seagull, I was now wearing crap. Direct hit on top of my hat – fortunately didn’t show up in the selfie.
Nice morning in Melbourne, but didn’t feel like I could negative split today as lacked energy towards the end. Had a hair cut last Thursday so that could also have contributed to the ordinary feeling – maybe the Samson effect is real.
Ran 1:51:47 but didn’t enjoy it. But happy to be accumulating a wonderful list of learnings that will surely deliver a result in the near future.
My three learnings
Don’t use lemon in your pre-race hydration drinks.
New fast shoes no good sitting in the cupboard at home.
Keep moving – stopping at lights makes you an easy target for seagulls.
