Run 46. The Impossible Run. 19/10/2019.
Not actually an impossible run, more a run to Point Impossible near Torquay. And what a contrast of car parks based on the weather. The first Point Impossible car park is for the nudist beach and given it was 8 degrees, windy with showers forecast, it was not surprising to find not one car parked there. Just 1.2 km further up the beach was a surfing beach and with the surf up, this car park was overflowing.
Headed inland towards a winery but had to retreat when a couple of magpies attacked, clearly not over the September result. Reconfirmed that swooping magpies cause a jump in heart rate. Had a nice time running with the wind at my back, but eventually had to turn around and run uphill and into a strengthening wind – again, not good for steady heart rate.
This was a recovery run after two weeks of “manflu” and a disappointing Melbourne half, but at least I felt a bit better. Nice to enjoy a run again.
In fact felt so good that I was able to finish with a bit of an effort and ran 4:42 for the last kilometer. And pretty sure I ran a sub 3 minute kilometer whilst been chased by the magpies.
During the marathon I was 81% in the red heart rate zone compared to only 6% on this run. Yet both were around the same 1:53:33 time. Health matters.
My Three Learnings
Magpies still swoop in October.
Surfers are tougher than nudists when the weather gets cold.
If you are healthy you tend to run faster with less effort.
