Run 41. Breamlea – Barwon Heads. 21/09/2910.
After a number of failed attempts to run a whole half marathon without my heart rate exceeding 155, I finally achieved it with this run. On a cool and overcast morning I had the chance to run without any real interruption associated with traffic lights or cars. Started my run from Bancoora Surf Club just outside Breamlea. A dedicated bike path and then ontoThirteenth beach meant I hardly saw a person let alone a vehicle. Eventually had to get back onto the road to head towards Barwon Heads but it was a quiet Saturday morning. And just as well as there is very little shoulder to run on when a car did come – very risky for the bike riders.
Turned around just short of Barwon Heads and headed back to the car via Breamlea. Nice little village on the foreshore. Was great to be able to run without restrictions and with no pressure to run fast or uphill I just maintained a speed that didn’t push heart rate – quite enjoyable. Despite taking it easy I ran a 1:55:53. Well within an hour of the world record.
Hosted a group of people, at our house, who were completing in the Surf Coast Century Challenge, most who were running between 48 and 52 kilometers. The fact that I only did 21.1km made me feel a bit lazy, but what the hell, they’ll probably have a couple of weeks off whilst I will run another 4 half marathons.
My Three Learnings.
Nice steady pace without constant stopping is easier on the body.
Faster recovery when body not pushed into high heart rate zone.
21.1km is faster and easier than running 50km.
