Run 28 – Metro Tunnel. North Melbourne. 6/08/2019

You know that feeling of running to the station and just missing your train. Well, on this occasion I ran to the station and got there 6 years before the train was due to leave. 2025 is a long wait for the train so rather than stand around, I decided it would be quicker to run home.

Admittedly distracted during a phone call, I wound my way through North Melbourne and onto Flemington Rd. A detour into Royal Park and I found myself on an expansive area, running around a perfectly circular track with brilliant views of the city – no doubt a developers dream.

Headed back into the city where I know I can get a few cheap kilometers due to the GPS tracking phenomenon. Still amazed at how many people walk down the street (and across intersections) whilst looking at their phones.

Finally left the CBD and down St kilda Rd and Queens Rd. Whilst waiting at the lights a lady asked if I was cold given my shorts and a T-shirt. When I replied yes she said I was lucky I wasn’t in Canberra because it was minus 5 the other morning. Apparently it was minus 44 in Oymyaken (Russia) the other day – but I wasn’t there either.

Starting to get better at holding back on my pace and trying to run a steady 5:30 min /km but can struggle at times in the dark if I forget to check my watch.

My Three Learnings

  1. Hard to monitor heart rate in the dark.

  2. People in the CBD more interested in their phones than staying alive.

  3. Canberra is apparently cold (I think this meant temperature wise).
