Run 2 – Brighton Beach Boxes 04/05/2019

Used the insight from run 1 to avoid certain traffic lights and particularly large intersections, led to a beach side run to the Brighton Beach Boxes. Fast, flat run with ideal weather – not. Windy with occasional showers was an immediate barrier – which I pushed through. Quick photo in front of the boxes cost me a few seconds but running on the soft sand was the problem.

Got back on the running track but then thought maybe the sand was a good idea again – but I was wrong again. Sand is slow.

Intended to cut back to the path but someone had built a football ground between the two and I ended stuck inside the Sandringham Football Club home ground. Fortunately I assume that same someone had left the gate open and I got back out, but again this cost me time.

Slight tail breeze on the way home as the rain eased off resulted in probable negative split, but not actually sure what that means, just know good runners do it.

New record time at 1:49:18 which is 6 minutes and 51 seconds faster than the first run. Already on track to break the one hour mark and with this level of improvement should be able to do it within the next 8 runs.

Starting to focus on nutrition and hydration. Had a gin and tonic and a Sav Blanc last night so obviously one of the two contributed to the improved performance – need to test this more in coming weeks.

My three learnings

  1. Sand is slow to run on

  2. Windy with rain may not be the ideal conditions

  3. Drink selection may play a role in performance. (Further testing required)
