Run 10 – Bell’s Beach. 2/06/2019
Decided to try somewhere out of the city so headed for the coast. Spectacular run between Torquay and Bell’s beach and back to Torquay. Beatiful beach views mainly on tracks along the waters’ edge. Still trying to find the fastest day of the week so this was a Sunday run, plus Saturday was wet and cold.
Despite the fact that the trails are hilly and sandy in parts, my time of 1:49:57 does suggest that Sunday’s are faster than other days, although I did remove the lemon slice from my G&T the night before so that probably contributed.
Got a confidence boost when I passed another jogger who looked to be struggling a bit on the hills. All my learnings from previous 9 runs gave me an egde as he appeared to be wearing the wrong color socks, seemed distracted by the scenery and didn’t accelerate into the corners. Also thought the pram he was pushing may have been slowing him down.
There were still a few bikes on this track but much slower and more cautious than in Melbourne, the real challenge was when someone with a surfboard turns around whilst walking – like a boom gate suddenly just materialised in front of you.
More down hill on the way back from Bell’s so able to pick up the pace a bit and no doubt helped by not having to negotiate a single set of traffic lights – gotta love the more remote settings.
My Three learnings
Prams appear to slow you down.
Surfboards make good barriers.
Sundays faster than Tuesdays.
